Values into Visuals

By now you should have a set of words and phrases that make up your businesses new brand values. But how do we turn those written values into visuals for our brand? Let's first take a quick look at how words can begin to be grouped by 'theme' and colour to represent a certain aesthetic.

So now what we're going to do is look at some examples of brand values, grouped by meaning and also by color. So you will see here that we have strategically placed things together in a group with certain types of colors, which I'm going to explain more on the next video. So let's go through these.

So bold, edgy, premium, strong, disruptive, stylish and sleek. So you can see that the meanings of these words, the type of things they represent are all very similar. They sit together in a group. Okay. So let's go over here, community integrity, safe, warmth, homely, authentic and honesty. Again, the meanings of these words represent very, very similar things and they all sit together in a nice snuggly group. And then over here, we have more energy. We have happy times, energy, fun collaboration, punchy, good vibes and playful. And you can see the color palette here is really starting to switch up. And then over here, we have sincere, calm, openness balance, soft clarity, and fresh.

And here we've started to introduce a much softer colour palette. So just take a moment to really look at the type of words, how they group together, the type of color palettes that we have selected within the groups. And now on the next video, I'm going to explain more about this.

The Four Seasons Concept

Now that we’ve briefly touched on how a different look and feel can connect to a certain word, and how certain words make us feel and sense a certain thing, particularly by way of colour. It’s time to dive in deeper, and begin to uncover the ‘Four Seasons Concept’. Because, believe it or not, every brand sits within one of the four seasons of the year – spring, summer, autumn, winter.

Okay. So now by this point, I've shown you how a different look and feel can connect to a certain word. How certain words make us feel and sense a certain thing.

So I want to talk to you about something which I think is very easy for anyone of any creative level and mindset to understand. This is really important, so go with me. I want you to sit and take a moment and think about the four seasons of the year; spring, summer, autumn, winter.

Let's take spring. Let's start with spring. Think about how spring makes us feel. Okay. So it's the change of the season. It's fresh, it's florally, it's blue skies, yellow chicks, Easter. We feel the change, it's got that certain energy to it. We welcome spring.

Let's think about summer. So summer, we're thinking about warmer nights. We're thinking about heat. We're thinking about good times. And then let's think about autumn. So Autumn, it changes mood. It's warmer. It feels, fluffy jumpers, acorns on trees. There's a sense of change. There's this depth that comes out of autumn. Now let's think about winter. Things get darker, things get colder, things get stronger in winter. We batten down the hatches in winter.

All brands sit within a season of the year. This may sound crazy, but take a moment. Look down at the words that you've written for your brand values. Look down at the color palettes that match with your brand values.

Think about the four seasons, which season does your brand sit into? Because I promise you there will be a main season that your brand lends itself to. BEESPACE as an example is a winter brand. It's strong, it's clear and it's direct. And that is how my brand values are. So please take a moment, and look down and think about which season of the year your property brand sits in.

So guys, what I'm going to do now is I'm going to talk you through, what a spring mood board would look like and I'm going to describe what I can see, and I'm hoping that you will be able to  also see the attributes of what I'm describing, and it will all start to make a little bit of sense.

So first things first, when we think about spring we think about,  I kind of guess these two images, sum it up really well for us. Because we come from winter into spring, the sun starts to make an appearance. You have beautiful flowers that start to blossom. Everything feels a little bit lighter.

We're going to Easter, we've got spring chicks. You know, everything's more like this isn't? It's a fresher feeling.  There's a sense of newness that comes with spring. Like a enlightenment.  It's like a happiness, but it's a calm sweet happiness, isn't it?  We start to get blue skies, longer nights, spring is the most beautiful season.

We really want to be this lady, right?  Think about the florally  kind of change of season that we get I think is really well presented in these images. So when we think about spring as a season, if you just take a moment now, everything that you can see on this board, and obviously you can also download this mood board.

If you want to pin it up in your office. You get a real clear sense of, of what spring's about. And I think there's a certain excitement isn't there to this season,a certain energy because we've come out of the winter months and we're all ready for it, aren't we Spring? We're all ready for that lovely  fresh and florally season.

We are now going to go through the summer mood board. Okay. So when we're looking at this, we really want to be thinking about, what, summer as a season of the year represents to us and all the images in front of us,  show us that. So here we go. Think about summer.

It's about good times. It's about holidays. It's about beaches. It's about warm evenings. Cocktails. Heat. Everything gets warmer. The sun comes out. We can have  lazy summer evenings.  Really summer is about the good times. It's festival season. It's holiday season.

It's about spending  really lovely time with the ones that you love and everything just feels a bit more fun, doesn't it in the summer? We're kind of ready for it, especially in the UK. We're sort of ready for this season and to kind of kick back and relax and have some fun. So everything that you can see in front of you on this board really represents that.

So let's take a moment to  think about the color palette that we've got. Warm, deep, bright, tropical- style colors.  It's fun and it's energetic. So all in all that is  a quick roundup of the summer season as we see it, the key attributes of what we know to be the summer season.

Don't forget that all of these season mood boards are available for you to download. So you can pin them up on your office board just to kind of remind you  about the good times of summer.

So guys, now it's time to look at the autumn season. And I really want you to think about how autumn as a season feels and how it represents to us. So an obvious place to start is everything changes colour doesn't it in Autumn? So leaves start dropping off the trees.  We open up the wardrobe and we start to get  the warm knitwear out and bigger warmer coats and hats and scarves.  Everything changes color in the autumn, it becomes autumnal. So we start to get the real sense of  the change of the season. Everything's browner and warmer. This is a beautiful color palette to represent that. And really that's massively inspired by nature. Nature does that around us and I think that that's the most beautiful thing about the autumn season.  Conkers on the ground, you know, you think about the color of conkers and leaves as they fall off trees and start to change colour. Open fires.

Everyone starts to stoke their log  burners up in the autumn, as it starts to get colder and colder. And of course Halloween and the harvest all happens in the autumn season. So there's a real clear sense of change when autumn comes round. It's like the preparation for the darker colder times that  we've got ahead.

So autumn, I think is the most beautiful season of the year in terms of the, the look and the feel. Remember, you can download all of these mood boards and pin them up in your office for inspiration.  Hopefully everything on here really encapsulates what the autumn season is and how it looks and how it feels.

So guys, it's time to wrap up on looking at the seasons and how they look and feel. So the last one is the winter season, the last season of the year. So here we go, the drama. Let's think about winter and how winter represents to us and how winter feels. So winter comes around. The nights get darker.

The weather gets a lot colder. Think about snow and ice. This all happens in the winter season. It's very dramatic. It takes over the winter season takes over. What we also get in winter is obviously the festive season as well. So everything gets a little bit more glamorous around that time and a little bit more sparkly.

There is that  real sense of  party and luxury that happens in the winter season. Just take a moment to  look at the images that we have here, this is a great example of  the mood. Foggy hills. The mood of winter,  it comes in and it takes over and it knows exactly what it's about the winter season does, and we do enjoy it.

You know, we enjoy the dark nights, with a fire on and  Christmas and parties and twinkly fairy lights. And it is a very, very dramatic, dramatic season.  It's also a great time for fashion as we're able to get big coats out and chunky boots and hats and scarves. Yeah, that's quite a good roundup of how the winter season feels to us.

Okay. So now we're going to come to the last season of the year and look at winter style branding. So if you have looked and you have decided that you are going to be a winter brand, then these other types of logos, prints and patterns that you may find used by a winter brand.  Let's take a moment again, just to remember what the winter season means to us. It's when the darkness comes and nights get shorter, everything's moodier..

There's also this underlying tone of glitz and glamor because we obviously have the festive season in winter. So winter logos, fonts, prints, and patterns tend to be on the bolder side of design. They tend to be edgier and look and feel visually more impactful and make a real statement just like the winter season itself.

So guys we've been through all the seasons now, you should absolutely be committed to the type of season that you are.  And what your look and feel is within that season. You should have by this point, a clear sense of creative direction for your color palette, for your mood, for your look and your feel through the seasons that we've gone through throughout the course.

Okay. So by now, we should be ready to commit to a season of the year. Within that season, there is going to be a selection of tones and color palettes, and a 'mood' that our brand, our brand values, are connected to.

As business owners, as brand owners, it's so important that we understand what we are. And we understand what we're not. Because if we understand what we're not, we can stop confusion. We can save time. Stop paralysis of decision choice. And stop overwhelm, because we're not any of the things over here. We are focused on what we are here.

So the next stage of this process is that we are going to create YOU your business, branded, mood-board. So we're going to go back onto Pinterest, and I'm going to explain step-by-step how are we going to do that. We're gonna start to create the cohesive look of your brand.
