Love where you Liverpool.

It's not very often that we come across a property brand that excites and inspires us. But when we saw Skaus Haus's new brand identity, it's pretty fair to say that we had literal heart emoji eyes!

A perfect combination of vibrant pops of colour, fluid shapes, and fun patterns. This is a brand identity that has been so cleverly and thoughtfully designed, as a homage to not only the Skaus Haus business and their ethos itself, but also to their beloved home city of Liverpool.

Who are Skaus Haus Properties?

If you're not already familiar with the Skaus Haus brand, let us introduce you!

The lovely (and super trendy!) Brian & Lauren Metcalfe are a Liverpool-based, husband-and-wife property development team, and they are passionate about raising the standards of rental spaces across the region.

Lauren is a valued member of The Hive Members Club, and worked with us last year on our Branding & Design Discovery Programme to uncover the Skaus Haus brand values and direction - because brands as solid as this do not come about overnight!

Successfully connecting into your brand takes a deep awareness and understanding of your business core values and target audience, which Lauren & Brian have managed to do so perfectly. They have really tuned into their brand personality, and figured out what it is that makes them unique in a saturated market.

It really highlights the level of brand strategy that's gone into creating this evolved identity, and we're super proud to have support them on it!

Their re-brand.

They worked with the super-talented designers at Redefine Studio, to turn those business values into a reality.

Developing a dynamic, bold, and fresh brand identity, that beautifully reflects their passion for Memphis Style design and their desire to bring something new to the property industry.

At the very heart of their brand, we can see the strong connection to the city of Liverpool. Their brand assets feature images of tenants, local Liverpool landmarks, local 'slang', and a heavy usage of vibrant colours - all vital parts of Skaus Haus's unique visual style and their roots.

Branding their space.

Following on from their rebrand, Skaus Haus now have a solid foundation to create beautifully consistent interior concepts for their property projects - as we can see in their latest SH180 flat refurbishment.

See how their brand effortlessly jumps off the page and into reality? Through cohesive colour schemes, consistent styles, and clever nods to their brand identity.

As soon as we saw these images pop up on social media, we immediately connected the interior design style to the Skaus Haus brand, and that is what makes their brand memorable, unique, and effective. That is how you brand your space.

Because branding your interiors isn’t simply about plastering your logo everywhere. Just as Skaus Haus has done here, it can be done in small subtle ways that, together, have a huge impact.

Aside from creating top-quality properties that people should feel very lucky to live in, here’s a few ways in which Skaus Haus has managed to successfully brand their space:

  • Playful patterns
We all know that Terrazzo tiles are top of the trends right now, but when we see it done here in Skaus Haus’s project we immediately connect the colourful abstract chips in the tiles with the fluid lettering of their logo and the repetitive patterns of their branding.

Using patterned materials (like wall murals, wallpapers, tiles for example) in this clever way can really solidify that brand feel without the expense of actual branded products.
  • Memphis Style inspired
A big inspiration behind the Skaus Haus rebrand was their love for Memphis Style design - renowned for its repetitive patterns, geometric shapes, neon and pastel colour schemes, and a mish-mash of eclectic styles.

We can see that this theme has been carried through into their interiors, by way of material choices and furniture style, that all work together to perfectly support their unique style of branding.
  • Branded posters
Do you know the simplest and most cost-effective way to brand your space? You guessed it, branded artwork! Skaus Haus have perfectly exemplified how easy it is to stamp your mark on your properties in a subtle yet playful way.

Their variety of artworks are eye-catching, relevant to their properties, and showcase their brand in a really great way. We particularly love the branded Liverpool-slang quotes, and think they make a great addition to student co-living properties in particular - all in a none-permanent, straight-forward way.
  • Cohesive colour schemes
It might be obvious, but carrying your brand colour palette through to your properties makes for a really connected brand experience. Notice the Skaus Haus peach sink, neon pink kitchen, pastel green wall, blue banisters, and slithers of black accents? Look back at their brand identity, do you see how they’ve played on that colour scheme within the interiors?

Take note: THIS is how it is done ladies (and gents)

A lesson to learn.

We speak about the importance of brand a lot within The Hive, and we hope this shows you why.

Your brand identity is without a doubt going to be the thing that levels up your property business. It's going to allow you to create consistent and cohesive interiors, and it's subsequently going to raise the standards of the industry at the same time - a win-win for developers, tenants, and the property industry as a whole.

As you can see with Skaus Haus, a genuine brand identity cannot be faked or borrowed. It should tell a story of its own, and one that is uniquely yours. It has to feel like ‘you’ and exemplify what you and your business stands for.

Can you say the same for your brand, and your properties? ✌🏻⚡️
